Whistle

Step 1

 

Let's construct a simple laminated plastic whistle.


  1. Open thinkdesign and open a New Model . Close the History tree.
  2. Right click in workspace and select Options.
  3. Click on the General tab and set the unit of measure to Inches and OK the dialog box.

  4. Select Profile Mode on and start the Polyline command on the Drafting toolbar.

  5. Draw the profile.

  6. Hide all dimensions and right click any profile line and Select, Chain from this.
  7. Change the color to 33.

  8. Select Format, Colors and Materials and we'll edit the color to reflect the transparent property of acrylic.

  9. Select Color 33 (in the red rectangle) and hit Advanced to open the Advanced Color Editing box.

  10. Insert 0.5 in the Transparency box and OK the Dialog Box and hit Apply in the Colors and Materials Box to accept the settings.

  11. Select Linear Solid in the Solid Toolbar and sweep the profile to a Depth of 0.25.

  12. Set the Workplane on the profile and we're ready for another Linear Sweep.

  13. Change the Color to 34. Remember to insert 0.5 in the Transparency box in Advanced Color Editing. Refer to instruction 9 and 10 to refresh your understanding.

  14. Select Chain, from this and Linear Solid, and Sweep the profile to a Depth of 0.25.

  15. Hit to accept the command.

  16. We'll use the Polyline tool to draw the last profile. Place the Workplane on the surface of the last solid, (the yellow surface). Zoom in for a better look.

  17. Use the Polyline tool to complete the profile.

  18. Change the Color to 2. Remember to insert 0.5 in the Transparency box in Advanced Color Editing. Refer to instruction 9 and 10 to refresh your understanding.

  19. Right click on any profile line, Chain from this and Linear Solid to Sweep the last profile.

  20. Hit to accept the command.

  21. Place the Workplane on the back of the whistle.

  22. The whistle is a bit on the small size. Let's edit one of the dimensions and correct this.

    We'll change the middle layer from 0.25 to 0.5.

  23. Select the vertical dimension 0.25 as indicated by the arrow.

  24. Right click the line and select Redefine Feature.

  25. Change the Depth to 0.5.

  26. Hit Rebuild to accept the change.

  27. We'll insert a .375 Diameter Hole with a Depth of 1.25 using the Simple Hole command.

  28. Hit to accept the command.

  29. Dynamically rotate the whistle to see the chamber hole.

  30. We'll complete the whistle in Step 2.
